 Thread FAQS

Aurifil Cotton Mako' thread is made using the best long staple Egyptian Cotton.

The long fibres, and the mercerising treatment used during manufacturing, produce a thread with a high sheen and superior strength.

This high quality makes  Aurifil Cotton Mako' ideal for machine embroidery, hand quilting, general sewing and machine quilting with all brands of domestic and hand guided quilting machines.

Available in four thread weights, Cotton Mako' is recommended for any purpose where a reliable, high quality cotton thread is required.

The added benefit of a generous spool sizes makes it possible to finish your design with minimum spool changes and thread breaks.

Conveniently packaged with a thread retainer base. Gently remove base to release thread for sewing & replace base when ready to lock thread tails for storage.

Spool holders are colour coded to identify thread type & thread weight.

How much thread do you need?

It is usually possible to complete the quilting on a queen size quilt with less than 1000 metres of thread. Therefore one spool of thread will normally be more than enough to complete a quilt.

If you are using a Ne 28 thread it is possible to use a finer weight thread in the bobbin to maximise the use of the decorative thread.

When doing heavy stitching on a quilt you may want to purchase a second spool.
