Tear-away, just as the name implies, is torn away after your stitching is completed. If multiple layers of tear-away stabiliser are used it is recommended that they be gently removed one layer at a time to prevent the stitching being distorted or inadvertently being pulled loose.
When using a tear-away stabiliser for hooped machine embroidery, remove the stabiliser BEFORE unhooping the fabric. While the fabric is in the hoop it has a little extra support and it will lessen the likelihood of any of the stitching or embroidery being distorted as the stabiliser is removed.
When sewing multiple rows of decorative stitching, it is much easier to remove the stabiliser after each row is sewn. this will eliminate puckering before rows and the possibility of distortion of the design while tearing away the stabiliser.
Use strips of Auritex to stabilise the seam lines when stitching very fine fabrics such as chiffon or silk.
Use Tear-away as a Patchwork Foundation:
Why not use Auritex 379 as the foundation for the popular foundation piecing technique used to create a great range of patchwork block?
![]()
Cut a piece of Auritex to A4 paper size & feed through printer. Images can be scanned or printed from a Computer design program such as Electric QuiltAuritex 379 is sufficiently firm to be able to be fed directly through the printer without the use of a carrier sheet. So, trim Auritex 379 to A4 paper size (or other paper size according to your printer specifications) and use your printer to print the block directly onto a sheet of Auritex and then stitch the design as usual.
Some Words of Caution:
Printing on any textile product is more successful in printers where the paper feeds directly through without being bent or folded around a roller. The continual printing on textile mediums may cause residual thread fibres to build up on some print heads and result in a reduction of print quality over time.
When foundation piecing use a smaller stitch length and a fine thread to achieve the best results when tearing away any foundation. Cotton Makó Ne50/2 is the perfect thread for foundation piecing as it is fine and strong.
