Lana (wool blend) is a unique strong textured thread suitable for machine embroidery. It is ideal for folk art style appliqué and it's soft appearance matches perfectly with woollen fabrics to produce a beautiful finish to your creative wool work.

As this thread is a little thicker than the usual embroidery thread a larger needle (90 or 100) is recommended for most machine work.

How to Use Lana 

Lana works very well for both machine & hand sewing and embroidery embellishment.

When using Lana for machine stitching the manufacturer recommends the use of a 90 or 100 needle. 

A Cotton Makó Ne 40/2 or 50/2 thread may be used as bobbin thread when machine stitching with Lana.

When using a digitised embroidery pattern best results are achieved by enlarging the design.

Creative Ideas to get you started:

• Match Lana to a wool background for blanket stitch appliqué by machine or hand
• Use Lana instead of a traditional embroidery thread to stitch "red work" designs by machine or hand
• Decorate a Wagga with embroidery
• Add textured to your machine embroidery

	Click on central photo to enlarge view  I decorated a modern wagga with appliqué & embroidery using Lana (wool blend).  The appliqué pieces to the left have been stitched with machine blanket stitch and hand stem stitch. The embroidery  includes examples of satin stitch infill work such as the butterfly and Filigree and Richelieu work as in the flowers in top right.

Care Instructions

Lana (Wool Blend) may be Laundered or Dry Cleaned.

A gentle wash to 40^OC with a mild detergent, suitable for wool, is recommended. The thread may be pressed with a cool iron.
