For many years it had been my dream to be “Always Quilting”. Now that I have achieved my dream I am pleased to be able to help you achieve your dream to finish your UFOs.

After a life time of dressmaking, I started machine piecing & quilting in 1991 while living in outback Australia, 260 kilometres from the nearest fabric shop. The opportunity to turn a hobby into a career came when my husband’s job caused us to move to Melbourne.

I  started my business in January 1999, when I ordered my hand guided Gammill Classic quilting machine.  "Matilda" arrived in March and I spent several months on self training before commencing to work on other people's quilts in June 1999.

In February 2001 I become the importer, & distributor, of Aurifil threads in Australia & New Zealand.

Right from the start I had been searching  for a good quality 100% cotton thread for the quilting business so, when I discovered Aurifil threads at the 2000  Machine Quilters Conference in the USA, I knew that this beautiful, fine Italian was the answer. It met all my requirements for my machine quilting business and I was confident that other people would also love stitching with it so I approached the manufacturers to become a distributor and, as they say, "the rest is history".

This website was started in 2000 and has grown like "topsy" ever since,  so that it now incorporates an online store, secure pages for Aurifil wholesale customers and a textile craft newsletter

In 2006 I upgraded the quilting machine with the addition of an Intelli-Stitch stitch regulation system.

In July 2007 I added an IntelliQuilter computerised robotic control to my machine. This computerised system means that I no longer have to hand guide the machine for every design as I can now program the computer to operate the machine to complete the stitching.  However it does not mean that the human element is missing from the quilting as, like any computer, IntelliQuilter is only as "clever" as the instructions it is given by the operator.

I have continued my training by attending:

  •  The inaugural Australasian Quilting Machine Conference, Sydney, Australia.  June 1999

  •  Introductory Workshop with Marilyn Badger, Melbourne, Australia. January 2000

  •  Advanced Workshop with Marilyn Badger, Melbourne, Australia. January 2000

  •  Machine Quilter's Showcase, Springfield Illinois, USA. May 2000

  •  Australasian Quilting Machine Conference, Penrith, Australia. July 2001

  •   Australasian Quilting Machine Conference, Mittagong, Australia. June 2003

  •  New Zealand Machine Quilting Conference, Cambridge, NZ. Sept 2006

  •  Guest Tutor at the New Zealand Machine Quilting Conference, Cambridge, NZ. May 2008

I love meeting fellow patchwork enthusiasts and invite you to telephone for an obligation free appointment to visit the studio

Each piece of patchwork that is entrusted to me for completion is stitched with the same care that I would give to my own work and  I like to take the time to discuss with each client the quilting options for their quilt, so that they can choose the quilting style that they prefer.

For those clients who are unable to deliver their quilts in person I  am always happy to discuss quilting styles by telephone and follow up with design samples, quilting plans and written quotes.

I enjoy providing individual tuition for 1 - 2 people and I regularly teach quilt finishing skills such as attaching borders, bindings, and hanging sleeves. On request, I will also teach fast cutting & piecing skills for techniques such as flying geese & half square triangles. These classes usually last one hour and are provided in my studio.

By the end of 2001 the business had overflowed throughout the house and I decided that it was time to reclaim our home. I was very fortunate to find a light airy "shop" space quite soon after I had made the decision to move. We have moved two more times since that first move out of home.

We can now be found at 401 Waverly Rd, Malvern East.

If you are planning to visit me you can download a map & public transport information from the location page.

Welcome to the Always Quilting Studio/Showroom.
Please come in and browse for a little while.
