Notes on Additional Quilting Services

Pressing
  • If you post your quilt I know that I will need to do some touch up pressing, before quilting, to remove the shipping folds. This will not incur a charge.

  • However, a pressing fee will apply if the quilt is delivered to me bundled straight from the dryer, or in a ball out of a bag.

Binding:

  • I use a continuous double fold "French" binding which is machine stitched to the right side of the quilt, with mitres folded at each corner.

  • The quilt is returned to you to finish the binding by folding it over the raw edge and hand stitching it to the stitching line on the back of the quilt.

  • However, I am also able to complete this last step for you if you choose. See the rates in the Additional Services table.

  • The binding is usually cut on the straight grain from fabric provided by you to match your quilt top.

  • If a bias cut binding is required to finish a curved edge a surcharge will apply.

  • Assuming your fabric is standard patchwork fabric width, use the "Fabric Estimator" to calculate the amount of fabric you will need to supply for the binding.
  1. Choose the quilt measurements nearest to the size of your quilt top.

  2. Choose your preferred binding width.

  3. Provide amount of binding fabric as specified in pink columns

Thread:

Discuss the thread options with me when delivering your quilt.

It is possible, and frequently advisable,  to change thread colours to blend, or highlight, different features of the quilt when stitching Creative & Heirloom style designs. However a thread change fee does apply when more than one colour of thread is used in a quilt.

Speciality threads such as variegated, heavier weights and metallic thread are also available.

The use of metallic, & some heavier weight threads is not recommended on bed quilts that may require regular laundering. However these threads look very decorative on display quilts.

100% Cotton thread is used for all quilting, unless otherwise specified, and a small surcharge applies. Read about the threads and see the extensive colour range of  Cotton Mako' threads.

Satin finished Aurilux polyester threads are also available for use on art quilts, wall hangings and tops where you want a touch of "jazz".
