After the newsletter, where I talked about the stitching satchel that I am making, a reader wrote suggesting that I include a segment on links to patterns and ideas for interesting stitching tools.

I have several free patterns on the Online store pages. Click on the link and then scroll down to patterns to find the Freebie patterns for the Block Carrier & Needle case:

Recently one of my friends was using a cute thread catcher that hangs from the table top while you stitch so I did an internet search for a pattern:

Thread Catcher & Pin Cushion

Or what about this interesting idea for making coasters to use up your spare fabric:

Four piece Coaster

Finally, check out the patterns from Crab-apple Hill in the online store, for some delightful embroidered stitching tools made from felted wool.

As patchworkers we are aware that the appearance of a colour is relative.  By this I mean that is the depth of one colour can be changed by the depth of the other colours that are nearby. WE use this principle each time we select our "light", medium" & "dark" fabrics to create our design

Each colour also has a complementary colour. If you concentrate on one colour for a long time you will often see the complementary colour, as an after image, when you look away

The website below is a fun example of this effect.

Have you run out of reasons for making quilts?

Not that I think you need a reason to make a quilt, other than the joy of creating something out of fabric, but so often our non quilting friends will ask:

"Why are you making ... ?"  or  "Who is it for...?"

If you feel you should have a charitable response to these questions then you might be interested in the flyer that appeared in my letterbox recently.

Please note that I have no connection with this service so, if you decide to help, it is your responsibility to confirm for yourself that it is a genuine charitable service with which you wish to become involved.

Inspirational Quilts TM

Providing support and comfort through the giving of quilts.

In her brochure,  Nancy Gheno, the owner of  Inspirational Quilts TM, wrote:

".... that Inspirational Quilts TM was established to provide quilts to people who are currently going through a tough and challenging time.

She goes on to say that she hopes that the quilts will lift the recipients spirits; provide them with the courage they need to see them through; and renew their faith in human kindness...."

If you are interested in making and donating a quilt to this cause you can find out more about the service on the website: http://www.inspirationalquilts.com.au
