How do you Quilt with a Longarm Machine?

Heirloom Quilting is a more detailed version of creative quilting.

Quilting plans with in this category may include

  • fine stippling,
  • grids & open cross hatching,
  • large quantities of ditch stitching etc.

  • some freeform interpretive designs using feathers, flowers and other intricate meander designs.
  • Large numbers of, or small, inset motifs

An Applique Sampler made by Bev Loveday of East Bentleigh Vic.
Each block has been custom quilted with a variety of meander designs, cross hatching and echo quilting. The sashes have been quilted with a Freeform design and the borders have been quilted with a Keryn Emmerson Ribbon design

This Ninepatch design by K.C of Port Vincent SA is made of 6" blocks.
The blocks are ditch stitched, then stitched with diagonal cross hatching through and a rose motif is set into the plain squares.  A rose vine design has been stitched in the border.

Using thread colours to complement the quilt.

When stitching Creative & Heirloom style designs it is possible to change thread colours to blend, or highlight, different features of the quilt. However a thread change fee does apply when more than one colour of thread is used in a quilt.

Speciality threads such as variegated, heavier weights and metallic thread are all available when quilting in the Creative & Heirloom style.

The use of metallic, & some heavier weight threads is not recommended on bed quilts that may require regular laundering.

100% Cotton thread is used for all quilting, unless otherwise specified, and a small surcharge applies. Read about the threads and see the extensive colour range of  Cotton Mako' threads.

Satin finished Aurilux polyester threads are also available for use on art quilts, wall hangings and tops where you want a touch of "jazz".
