Read what Quilter's have to say about Cotton Makó , Aurilux and the Speciality threads. Back to Quilting Machine FAQsCotton MakóH.K of Bateman WA noted the following comment on her order for Cotton Makó Ne 40(Sept 2002): Love the threads! Need more!!
Received on 5/12/2000 about Ne 28 variegated Cotton Makó: "Dear Jenny ................ just completed a quilt using some variegated thread I bought last Saturday. I am very happy with the result. ..... Very pleasing!! Rhonda Coates" Windemere Quilting
December 2000 - "........ This morning I have used nearly every one of the threads Jenny sent me and not one breakage and don't think I have touched the tension. I am using the 50 wt. thread in the bobbin and it goes so much further. Like I said one very happy quilter and I just love the threads. Liz.............Cobar" Over the Top Quilting
AuriluxFeedback on using Aurilux on a DAQ machine:"Dear Jenny ..... I put glad-wrap around the spool as you suggested and made sure it was running freely. I passed the thread through the first and second thread posts only once (usually we pass the thread twice through the first thread post and three times through the second). I have a rotary tension fitted to my machine, so I went twice around that (as per usual) then threaded it the same to the needle. I do have teflon needles to use with specialty threads but I forgot to use one this time. I did not adjust the tension at all. .............. I believe you must run the machine slower and we must go slower also when using specialty threads. Once I re-threaded the machine, as above, I had no breakages and the back was fine all the way through. I feel confident that I gave the thread a good test with the very 'tight' pattern I used, lots of toing and froing etc. ........" Pam Castanelli
December 2000 - Feedback on the current range of Aurilux threads. Used with permission of the writer. "Hello Everyone I have read many emails by quilters singing the praises of Aurifil's new gold thread. Well I have only just taken delivery of my order and with Christmas coming on I couldn't wait to try it. This morning I threaded it up and spent an hour doing some pretty intensive quilting with it (lots of quick turns and quilting over and over the same place) and I am delighted to report that it performed beautifully. I haven't used metallic thread on the longarm before but I have used several other brands of metallic thread on my Bernina domestic. Many have failed miserably, some are successful with adjustments, so despite so many testifying to Aurifil's benefits I must admit I was skeptical. But its performance this morning makes me wonder why I ever doubted. I made no adjustment to anything (I am already using a 4.0 needle), I used the gold colour Aurilux on the bobbin and both threads just shimmered on the fabric like silk. Didn't break once, didn't even look like breaking. Thanks Jenny Scott of Always Quilting for making this wonderful thread available to us. Regards
Received October 2001 "Dear Jenny Thank you so much for getting this thread to me. You have got a loyal customer - where else would I get such service - Thank you. The thread is truly beautiful & a dream to use - can't wait to run out of the "other" junk & use all yours. Regards Robyn Joynson Have to go - busy quilting with "gold" "
Sent to the Australian Machine Quilters List September 2001. Used with permission of the writer & owner. " Hi all I have been at it again :) This time with some of Jenny Scotts metallics and polyesters. My local land group were having a bag day on Saturday. We had to take a quilted piece 50cm x 90 cm.... geesh where would I get such a thing??? I loaded up 2 x 2 metre lengths of black homespun with Charcoal Matilda's. First bag (first 50cm) Silver metallic top and silver poly bobbin. No tension adjustments and perfect stitch formation. Used one of Keryns new allovers from her Kaleidoscope pack (I have them in stock). Looked good and I was thrilled with the thread performance. The needle was a used (one quilt old) MR 3.5. Next 50cm I switched to gold metallic and gold poly bobbin. More intricate quilting design, another of Keryns from the Kaleido pack called Fuschia. Fantastic design... definitely a must have. I especially like the way Keryn has given straight edges top and bottom for finishes.... but the body of the design is scalloped and interlocks beautifully. I had a couple of thread breakages here. Had to loosen the top tension. 1/2 turn on the intermittent and 1 on the rotary... still gave me perfect stitches top and bottom.... and lots of wow factor <G>. Mary-Anne turned that one into her bag <G>. Much nicer to take useful things to guild meetings as samples than a pile of carpet square lookalikes <G>. Last metre.... well I had some of the Aurilux poly variegated in the darker of the pinks blues etc. (5826) and I went off and practised freehand. All the things Kaye was showing at the conference and a couple of things I invented myself.... LOL.... well who knows but three leaved triple echoed leaves.... and all the doodle designs from QNM Dec 1999 . .. and water and bricks and tiles... all sorts of stuff. No stippling <G>... that was until I got to the very end. stitched a block pattern and then showed how filling the background would look with stippling versus echoing versus fancy echoing.... ie echo a line or two and then add in twirls etc to make the echoing more interesting. This piece of fabric looked great. It was my bag piece... Mary-Anne over-ruled me and is going to bind it for a sample. It is big enough to give away as a lap quilt when we are sick of it.... so I guess I can quilt something else for another bag. <G> Would look good as a vest too (taking an idea from Liz M there). The Aurilux polyester performed wonderfully. Excellent stitches top and bottom, all locking in the centre of the Matilda's charcoal wadding. The bobbin ran out after a while, so I started using up all my nearly empty bobbins of whatever.... signature, mettler, rasant and dmc (from memory). Still didn't have to adjust the tension or worry about stitch quality and not one breakage. So if you have been worried about trying metallics give the Aurifil a go. Cheers Cathy ps.... spent all day Sunday doing the work I should have been doing Friday <G>. Needles and Pins Quilting Back to top of pageBack to Quilting Machine FAQsHome
